Hopefully you you never have a dental emergency, but knowing what to do if you have one can make the difference between losing a tooth or keeping it. If a tooth is knocked out during an accident the first step is to remain calm! If there is no imminent medical emergency, such as uncontrolled bleeding or other bodily injury, call a local dentist immediately. Do not scrub or wash the tooth; simple place it in a container of milk, saline, or a tooth preservative (obtained from a pharmacy or emergency room). See a dentist as soon as possible, preferable within 30 minutes. With prompt attention, a permanent tooth may be re-implanted into the tooth socket and may remain normal and healthy.
A common problem people experience is a temporary crown that comes off. The best solution is to call your dentist so that they can cement the crown back onto the tooth. If you can't reach your dentist, a comment solution is to re-adhere the crown with a little bit of toothpaste or Vaseline. You can also try over-the-counter dental cement products found in most drugstores.
